Happiness Is...
... being Assistant Director for You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown! Bryan College's production of this beloved musical is the first show for which I held a directing position. I immediately fell in love with the craft of directing through this show. My work with You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown introduced me to many new experiences, including one-on-one choreography direction, helping block difficult scenes, and picking elements for the set design. Being a part of bringing this production to life remains one of the most rewarding times of my life as a Theatre student.
Set Design
The set for You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown consisted of six elevated flats secured to the stage, each painted with a color scheme and pattern dedicated to one of the characters. The proscenium was covered with hand-traced comic squares from the original Peanuts comics; similarly, the organ speakers on each side of the auditorium were covered with foam featuring comics that were also hand-traced. Contributions I made towards the set included choosing images for several of the comic squares, the "You Blockhead!" speech bubble, and assistance in constructing and de-constructing the set.
Rehearsals & Construction
This show would not have been possible without our incredible team. Outside the responsibilities of being an assistant director comes the opportunity to collaborate with a community of students and faculty that share a passion for theatre and art. During production of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, I strengthened relationships with the other theatre students and worked more efficiently with them as a result.
